COMPOSITING ITEMS
Find the Materials
Your party earns material by winning battles.
The material you get depends on which monster you beat -- and how you beat them.
Check out the search points on the game map to find material, too.
Combine Your Materials
You can make items at the merchant shops dotted across the land. Many items in the game can't be found -- they can only be synthesized.
Select "Synthesize" from the shop menu to display a list of available materials and possible items. You can create equipment with a wide variety of skills attached.
Here's a list of the equipment skills you have. The gauge next to the skill name shows your mastery of the skill.
Master Your Skills
When you equip weapons or armor with skills attached, you will be able to use the skills in battle.
Each skill requires a different amount of LP to master.
You master skills with the LP (Learning Points) you earn in battle. When a skill's gauge is filled, the skill is mastered.
After mastering a skill, you can use SP (Skill Points) to continue using that skill, even after unequipping the item it was attached to.

Battle System
The New Battle System: EFR-LMBS
(Evolved Flex-Range Linear Motion Battle System)
The FR-LMBS (Flex-Range Linear Motion Battle System) allowed you to control your party's characters freely on the battlefield. Vesperia's enhanced FR-LMBS includes a feature that lets you defeat weaker enemies with a single strike.
Fatal Strikes
Fatal Strikes allow you to dispatch weaker opponents with a single blow. In addition to quickening the pace of battle, successful strikes give you HP and attack-power bonuses, as well as extra experience and item-synthesis materials.
Press the button at just the right moment to trigger a Fatal Strike, defeating weaker enemies in one hit regardless of their remaining HP.
Every arte and magical attack is classified as a certain type of action.
All enemies have built-in resistances to each type of action.
That resistance goes down as you hit your enemy. When it reaches zero, the action is triggered.
Over Limit
Launch an Over Limit when the gauge on the left is filled.
In Over Limit mode, you can chain together physical attacks, artes, and magic skills, letting you extend combos as long as you like.
The gauge can go all the way up to level 4. Triggering Over Limit when the gauge is at higher levels unlocks extra effects.
Burst Artes
Execute specific commands in Over Limit mode to trigger Burst Artes, more powerful than regular artes or magic.
Select a movie.
Skill Transform
Some artes and magic are transformed when you attach certain skills to them.
Continue using this transformed move, and you'll eventually master it like any other skill.
Select a movie.
Battle Book
As you learn your way around the battle system, the Battle Book (obtained as you play the game) gradually fills up with more reference material. Useful for beginners!
Secret Missions
Some boss battles contain optional secret mission objectives to carry out. Finish them successfully, and you'll earn rewards and have an easier time getting through the game.
Giganto Monsters
During your adventure, you may occasionally run into enemies much larger than what you normally fight. They are far stronger and more dangerous than your usual foes -- if you dare to fight one, be prepared!
Encounters
Surprise Encounters
If an enemy symbol touches you from the rear on the game map, you will be surprised, kicking off the battle with a rearranged set of party characters.
Encounter Links
If there are other enemy symbols nearby when you touch an enemy symbol, an Encounter Link will be triggered and you'll fight all of the enemies at once.
Mystic Artes
Launch an arte or high-level skill and hold down the button for a certain period of time to trigger a Mystic Arte. These artes are flashier and more powerful; you'll also see special battle sequences unique to the casting character.

COOKING
Wonder Chefs
Once you obtain recipes, you can cook using ingredients that you find during your adventure.
Get recipes by talking to the Wonder Chefs all around the world.
Wonder Chefs are hidden worldwide under many different guises.
Talk to them, and you'll be able to obtain a new recipe.
Take a close look at anything suspicious you see to find them.
CUSTOMS
Titles
You can earn titles for yourself by fulfilling certain in-game conditions.
Depending on the title you choose, you'll unlock extra abilities and new clothes for your characters.
Attachments
You can obtain attachment parts by synthesizing other items together.
They have no effect on your abilities, but they do change the look of your characters.
SKIT
The skit system, one of the Tales series' hallmarks, is back in Vesperia. You'll feel like you're part of the adventure as you enjoy your party's unique expressions and listen to their voices. Some skits even give you hints as you progress through the game.
